Legends Golf & Country Club

The bar at the Sunset Grill has two sides. One pours for the dining tables, under cover or in the open air, and the other faces the pool. The grill was rebuilt with a kitchen and menu of its own, and it looks out over the 10th fairway and the practice range at Legends Golf & Country Club, toward the sunsets the club named it for. On Saturday and Sunday mornings it shares a plated breakfast with the Pub inside.

The grill sits on the clubhouse terrace, about half a mile inside the gate at 8600 Legends Boulevard, next to the pool. Legends is a guard-gated golf community in south Fort Myers, in Lee County, reached from Daniels Parkway near I-75 exit 131 by way of Fiddlesticks Boulevard. Every arrival stops at the Main Gatehouse, where a guard checks a driver's license and issues a dashboard pass for one, three or seven days.

What changed when the Legends course was rebuilt in 2025?

Every green, the bunkers and the practice areas. Joe Lee designed the 18-hole, par-72 course, which opened in early 1999 and was reworked by Kipp Schulties in 2010. The Garl Nix design firm took it on next, closing it in mid-April 2025 and reopening it around the turn of the year into 2026.

That rebuild stripped all 18 greens and rebuilt them in TifEagle Bermuda grass. The bunkers were reshaped, the driving-range tee was extended, and a new short-game area went in with a two-tiered chipping green and two practice bunkers. Lakes, ponds and creeks lie along 14 of the holes. According to the club, its fairways are wide, with mounding around generous greens.

What is there to do off the course?

The racquet side has seven Har-Tru tennis courts, all but one with LED lighting, plus a tennis shop and resident professionals for lessons and clinics. Next to them are four LED-lit pickleball courts and four bocce courts, with covered seating between the two. The club organizes couples leagues, mixed leagues and daily open play.

The fitness center opens to a member's key from 5:30 in the morning until 11:00 at night, seven days a week. Group classes include Zumba, Yoga and Aqua Kick, and personal training is booked through Fit Forever. The pool beside the clubhouse has a spa and a waterfall at its edge, with views over the course, and it's open daily from first light until dusk. In the water there's Aqua Zumba, Aqua Cardio and Aqua Kick.

Where do you eat, and what runs on a weekly basis?

The Main Dining Room is the largest, seating up to 200 and mixing casual and fine dining. The Pub is inside the clubhouse and the Sunset Grill out on the terrace. For something quick between nines or from the pool deck, the Café opens every day.

The Main Dining Room keeps a standing weekly lineup of member events. As the club lists them, "Events include Italian Night, Sippin' Tuesday, Friday Night Buffet and Sunday Breakfast Brunch." The printed Clubhouse Calendar, the fitness schedule and the weekly e-newsletter, the Legends Exchange, are all available at the clubhouse.

How far is Legends from the airport, the shops and the beach?

Thirteen minutes gets you to the airport terminal. Measured by road from the main entrance, with no traffic:

• Gulf Coast Medical Center, about 4.5 miles or 8 minutes
• Bell Tower Shops, about 5.8 miles or 11 minutes
• Gulf Coast Town Center, about 7 miles or 13 minutes
• Southwest Florida International Airport terminal, about 7.7 miles or 13 minutes

For the Gulf, drive west: Times Square on Fort Myers Beach measures about 15 miles, around 27 minutes without traffic. Lighthouse Beach Park, on Sanibel's eastern tip, is about 21 miles and about 37 minutes.

What kinds of homes are at Legends, and what do they cost?

Condominiums, twin villas, patio homes, garden homes, executive homes and estate homes, which is how the club sorts them on its own sale-and-rent board. Neighborhood names include Bristol Bay, Wellington, Langshire, Westfield, Wyndam Bay, Huntington, Longhurst, Devington and Thornberry. Nothing new is being built. The developer handed the club to its members in April 2005 and the last new home closed that July, so you'd be buying a resale, whichever home you choose.

Condos and houses are priced as two markets, not one. Between April 2025 and October 2026, condominiums sold from the $160,000s to around $400,000. Detached homes and attached villas sold from the $390,000s to around $750,000. Living space runs from about 1,100 to about 2,100 square feet, with 2 to 3 bedrooms. No estate home sold in that window, so the largest homes may sit above those figures.

What does a resale buyer pay the club, and who approves the sale?

The club takes about $10,000, once, as a Resale Capital Contribution paid at purchase, and someone who already lives at Legends and buys a new primary residence there gets 75% off it. It's separate from anything billed each year, so a purchase here does carry a buy-in.

The club calls Legends a bundled community. Membership comes with owning a home rather than being bought on its own, and the club calls its owners members. The membership is either golf or social, and the club's own pages don't say which homes carry which. If you're buying to play the course, have the club confirm in writing which membership that particular home carries, and do it before you put in an offer.

There are two association layers. The Legends Golf & Country Club Master Association spans the whole of Legends, and its line to agents is plain: "We do not have an application or approval process with the Master Association." Each neighborhood, though, has a homeowners association of its own with its own resale process, and that can include an application and approval. Expect to work through both.

Can you rent out a home at Legends?

Yes, with two separate sign-offs. The club lets an owner pass the use of its amenities to a tenant for a transfer of about $500, paid to the Master Association, for any term from 30 days up to one year. The lease itself needs approval from the neighborhood's management company, and that neighborhood's rules may be stricter than the club's.
